I know you are probably wondering, “why would a chiropractor not want to see a patient?’ In fact, if you ask most Chiropractors, they will easily tell you that Chiropractic is good for everyone. Which I believe one hundred percent. But there are some concrete reasons why someone should never see a chiropractor. Stick with me, and I will explain.
The first reason why you should never see a chiropractor is because you like being sick. I know that sounds a bit silly, but after practicing for over two decades, I have had patients who did not want to get well. A lot of this can stem from the social nature of our society. People bond with others who have the same likes and preferences, and this sometimes often means health issues or diagnosis. So, as the patient starts to heal and no longer has the “sickness” that connects them to their social group, they stop care. The connections that they have made, and their identity are more important than their health. Sad, but true. Unfortunately, this usually is not identified until the patient is well into their care plan.
The second reason you should never see a chiropractor is you just don’t want to get better. What? Who doesn’t want to get better? There are patients who don’t. These are usually the patients who come to us and can’t work because of their condition and are limited in the type of activities that they can perform. Well, they start care, and the most amazing thing happens. They start getting better, which means they should be able to start returning to their work and other responsibilities, but then something incredible happens. They drop out of care. For a lot of these people the mental and emotional stress of returning to work is a huge factor for them, and the restoration process that we have done just brought that to the surface. They said the right things, but they did not say the real things when they started working on getting better, and for many, this may not be evident when they start unfortunately.
Lastly, probably the most important reason why you should never see a chiropractor is you don’t want to change. A few years ago, there was a scientific study that was done by a heart surgeon. He took one hundred patients who had severe heart attacks and sat down with each and every one of them and told each patient their diagnosis and prognosis. He also told them that if they did not change their lifestyle, particularly what they ate, they would die. Well, this doctor had a follow up meeting with these same patients one year later, and do you know what he found? Only one in four actually made any effort to change their diet. The others chose to die early, rather than eat differently. What this proves is, as humans, we don’t like change. It is uncomfortable, it’s not easy, and it usually takes us out of our comfort zone. We find the same thing with Chiropractic. Because we are making such a significant change in your nervous system, the results can be quite dramatic…both positive and negatively. Our patients that get the best results understand this. And ultimately, they get amazing outcomes, which is a fantastic thing to see as a doctor. We love seeing patients live out their dreams, goals and ambitions.
At Crossroads Chiropractic, our doors are always open. We want to be available to help anyone that wants to get better, and even though they may not “want to see a chiropractor” we know that they are in the right place to try.
